Steering Committee

The Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles (BTFGLA) is recruiting new members to serve on its Steering Committee to help achieve its mission of improving the health and well being of infants and families through education, outreach, and advocacy to promote and support breastfeeding.

The Steering Committee provides programmatic leadership to the organization, and serves at its brain trust. Its members contribute energy, time, and resources to help develop, guide, and further BTFGLA goals and objectives. Its members share a passion for and a willingness to work to make breastfeeding the cultural norm in Los Angeles. For the Position Description, click here .

Formed in 1994 and incorporated in 2001 as a non-profit community based organization, the BTFGLA realizes that everyone in Los Angeles has a stake in successful breastfeeding outcomes for mothers, and thus seeks a diverse Steering Committee that that will bring a broad array of experiences, skills, and cultural perspectives to this important work.

Promoting and supporting breastfeeding is a low-tech high-impact public health intervention that can reduce racial and ethnic disparities among LA’s diverse population. It is the best way to ensure that the most vulnerable newcomers to society get off to a promising start in life.

The BTFGLA is at the forefront of spearheading change in hospitals and the community. Its projects are varied and include professional education, networking with hospitals, workplace support, community outreach, and working in coalition with other breastfeeding organizations throughout the state and the nation. The BTFGLA works very closely with community partners to help enact breastfeeding legislation at the state level which will improve services for all women and their babies.

Please consider bringing your skills and experience to join us in this important mission.
