Program Coordinator: BreastfeedLA Hospital Breastfeeding Initiative
This county-wide project is designed to close the unacceptably wide breastfeeding gap between white middle-class mothers and low-income women of color and to expand the number of hospitals in Los Angeles County to achieve the Baby-Friendly designation. It is a collaboration of the Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the activities in Los Angeles County. These include convening Regional Hospital Breastfeeding Consortia, providing technical assistance, training and support to hospital and affiliated clinic administrators to implement systems change and quality improvement.
A strong enthusiasm for breastfeeding is required. Qualified candidates will have excellent communication skills and a home office. This is a temporary half-time employment opportunity. Graphic artists needed to work with our team to create new concepts for marketing materials, print, ad, logo and website banner design. Clean, modern, and contemporary design aesthetic with strong knowledge in graphic design, layout, color theory, and typography. Experience with Joomla is a huge plus, but not required. Policy Analyst: Breastfeeding Policy & Development
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Programs is seeking an enthusiastic, hard working policy analyst to promote hospital breast-feeding policy development and implementation. Applicants should be passionate about improving breast-feeding policies and practices in hospital settings. The Policy Analyst will be responsible for managing all activities related to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the new Baby-Friendly Hospitals Project under Choose Health LA. The project will select hospitals based upon breastfeeding rates, obesity rates, and geographic spread throughout the County. This position, in collaboration with funded partners, will provide in-depth technical assistance, trainings, and support to hospital administrators, affiliated prenatal clinics, and staff to implement systems change and overcome administrative barriers and concerns with potential costs.·

Peer Educator/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor
Soul Food for Your Baby is seeking a Peer Educator/Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to assist the Lactation Educator with breastfeeding class and support groups. Hours will initially be about 5 per week and may increase up to 20 hours as the program expands. Initial classes will be Wednesday mornings. The Peer Educator will: provide breastfeeding peer counseling services and referrals; refer difficult cases to lactation educator/lactation consultant; assist with administrative support and preparation of materials for classes/support groups; set up and break down classes; and purchase refreshments and supplies for sessions. Must have good knowledge of breastfeeding and completed Breastfeeding Peer Counselor training. Proof of training required. Some college preferred; experience with African American communities; flexible schedule; and strong organizational and communication skills. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. A background check will be run on the selected candidate.

Lactation Educator
Soul Food for Your Baby is seeking a Lactation Educator to facilitate our breastfeeding class and support groups. Hours will initially be about 5 per week and may increase up to 20 hours as the program expands. Initial classes will be Wednesday mornings. The Lactation Educator will: provide counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals; facilitate discussion and provide accurate breastfeeding information; provide guidance to peer educators; maintain records and make follow-up calls; set up and break down classes; and purchase refreshments and supplies, as needed. Must have extensive knowledge of breastfeeding; Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) preferred (proof of certification required); Bachelor's Degree; experience leading breastfeeding classes or support groups; experience with African American communities; flexible schedule; strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office and with audiovisual equipment. Must have a computer, Internet access, and a printer. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. A background check will be run on the selected candidate.
